How to Keep a SEIKO Automatic Running Accurately — A Beginner's Guide

1. Why it runs when worn and stops when taken off
An automatic winds itself from your wrist movement. Leave it still for about one to two days and the power runs out and it stops. That's normal — it isn't broken.
2. How many hours a day is enough?
Wearing it through a normal day of about 8–10 hours usually winds it enough to run overnight. If you wear it less, you may need to give it a few turns by hand.
3. Setting the time after it stops
- Gently turn the crown about 20–30 times to give it some starting power
- Pull out the crown and set the correct time
- Always push the crown fully back in (and screw it down on screw-down models) to keep it water resistant
4. Things to watch out for
Keep it away from strong magnetic fields (speakers, some tablets), which can make it run inaccurately. Automatics also gain or lose some time each day as a normal property of the movement — not as precise as quartz. Compare in automatic vs quartz.
