How to Change or Resize a Watch Strap Yourself — No Shop Visit Needed

Adjusting a strap to fit your wrist is easy to do yourself. This article covers the steps and the things to watch out for — but if you're not confident, our repair department is happy to help.
1. Tools you need
- A pin pusher, or a small, strong needle
- A small hammer and a bracelet holder (for bracelets with push-in pins)
- A soft cloth to protect against scratches
2. Resizing a steel bracelet (removing links)
Look for the arrows on the underside of the bracelet and push the pins out in the direction they point. Remove links evenly from both sides, then reassemble so the pins lock firmly.
3. Changing a strap with spring bars
Use a spring bar tool to compress the end of the spring bar and remove the old strap. Fit the new strap so the spring bars click fully into the lug holes on both sides.
Tip: always work on a soft cloth on a table with a raised edge, so pins and spring bars don't fly off and get lost, and the case doesn't get scratched.
4. When to let a watchmaker do it
For special locking straps, expensive cases, or if you're worried about scratches, it's safer to let our repair department do it.
FAQ
Does resizing the strap myself void the warranty?
Normal link adjustment doesn't affect the warranty on the watch itself, but damaging the case or caseback yourself could. Work carefully.
Is it hard to change a leather strap myself?
Not at all. Most use spring bars too — with a small tool you can do it in five minutes.
