Watch Battery Dead? Battery Life, Care and Whether to Change It Yourself

1. How long does a watch battery last?

2. Signs the battery is running low

• check_circleThe seconds hand jumps two to four seconds at a time (a low-battery warning on some models)

3. Can you change it yourself?

Snap-back models can sometimes be done at home, but water-resistant and screw-back models should be done by a watchmaker, because the caseback has to be sealed properly and the water-resistance seal should be replaced at the same time — otherwise the water resistance drops.

4. Making the battery last

If you won't wear it for a long time, pull out the crown (stopping the hands) to save the battery. And don't leave a stopped watch for long, as the battery can leak — talk to our repair department.
